127 contestants skanked their butts off to live ska music by The Uptones, Hectic, and The Street Vendors @ La Peña Friday nite. DJ Ox kept the dance hall bouncing for the contestants and the rest of the sweaty crowd between sets, and comedian Eric Cash MC’d & announced the winners. 2nd prize winners all took home a copy of The Uptones’ Skankin’ Foolz Unite! CD.

Here is 1st prize winner and skanker extraordinaire, Leslie Watson, presented with a giant check for $500.00 by Kelly Brant from SONICSWAP.com.

Leslie and all the runners up then joined the Uptones onstage for the finale. It was a skankin’ fools dream! A special shout out to the youngest contestant yet, Tiger, who at 11 years old was also attending his very first concert. Here are the runners up:

Q: How do I win your dance contest?

A: You must have a number to win the contest. After receiving your number, skank through the entire Uptones set, and then wait for the judges to announce the winner.

Q. Where do I get a number?

A. Numbers are assigned the evening of the contest at the registration
table.
It’s first come first serve.

Q. How can I be guaranteed a number?

A. Anyone who buys a ticket in advance is assigned a number.

Q. Who judges the contest?

A. The Skanking Fool and his Posse

Q. Is there only one prize?

A. No. The amazing prize of $500.00 that SonicSwap, the best new app for
iTunes, has put up for first prize – isn’t the only one. There will be more prizes.

Hello Ska World

Hi, this is Eric and Moose from The UpTones. We got depressed when we could not find a ska section in our local record store in Berkeley.

We then went to Amazon and iTunes and everywhere else online, and couldn’t find ska as a genre. It’s either under “alternative” which is bollocks, or listed as a sub genre to reggae or punk. Nuf’ respect to reggae and punk, but ska came from neither, and it is a top level genre to anyone who knows what dancing feet are for.

So what’s going on here? All the bands on our links list play ska, of one kind or another. We want to have the most complete links page of ska bands, mp3s, sites and podcasts in the universe. Please post a comment and send us your ska url, so we can post it in our list of ska peeps who feel ska isn’t getting its rightful place in the world.

Ska’dammit.
